What Vista Does

Vista Projects is an integrated engineering firm who has been solving complex challenges in the energy industry since 1985. We are innovators at our core. We continually find better, smarter ways to design and deliver oil and gas projects, and we are proud to be contributing on some of the most exciting low-carbon and synthetic fuel developments in the North America. For our people, that means meaningful, varied work and a real chance to shape how modern engineering gets done.

We are innovators in the energy industry. We actively find ways to improve how oil and gas projects are designed and delivered, and we are contributing to some remarkable low-carbon and synthetic fuel developments, including electro-sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) and gas-to-liquids (GTL) projects.. We are headquartered in Calgary and maintain a satellite office in Houston.

Why We Do It

The world needs energy, and better engineering makes the projects that deliver it safer, more efficient and more sustainable. Our multi-discipline teams have designed some of the most challenging and successful projects in the North American energy sector, from early-stage studies and pilots to large-scale commercial expansions. We take pride in doing that work well, and just as much pride in continuously improving how we do it.

What You Would Do in This Role

The Intelligent P&ID System Specialist is part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the developing and maintaining and supporting intelligent P&ID environments that form a key part of Vista’s data centric project execution model. The primary platform for this role is Autodesk Plant 3D P&ID. Experience with other intelligent P&ID or engineering design platforms such as AVEVA, SmartPlant P&ID, Bentley AutoPlant and CADWorx would be considered an asset. This role combines an understanding of P&ID engineering and design workflows with application configuration, structured engineering data and systems support. The successful candidate will work closely with Process Engineering, Design, Systems Integration, Project Management and IT to ensure intelligent P&ID solutions are fit for purpose and support Vista’s broader engineering data strategy.

Duties include:

  • Setup, configuration, and maintenance of Autodesk Plant 3D P&ID project environments
  • Configuration and maintenance of P&ID project standards, including drawing templates, symbols, classes, properties, tagging formats, annotations and other project-specific requirements
  • Development and maintenance of intelligent P&ID data structures that support consistent and accurate engineering information across projects
  • Configuration and support of equipment, piping, instrumentation, and other engineering data represented within intelligent P&IDs
  • Development and implementation of data validation, quality control, and consistency checks for P&ID information
  • Configuration and generation of engineering reports and data extracts from Plant 3D P&ID and related data sources
  • Support for P&ID data exchange and integration with other engineering applications, databases, and project systems
  • Development and maintenance of workflows for managing P&ID data throughout the engineering project lifecycle
  • Support for project startup, including establishing project configurations, standards, templates, and execution requirements
  • Troubleshooting and resolution of application, configuration, drawing, and data-related issues
  • Providing technical support, guidance, and training to engineers and designers using intelligent P&ID applications
  • Working with engineering and design teams to identify opportunities to improve P&ID workflows through standardization, automation, and better use of intelligent engineering data
  • Supporting software upgrades, testing, deployment, and compatibility with related engineering applications
  • Developing and maintaining documentation, configuration standards, work instructions, and best practices
  • Liaising with Engineering, Design, Systems Integration, Project Management, and IT teams to ensure fit-for-purpose implementation of intelligent P&ID solutions
  • Supporting the continuous improvement of Vista's intelligent engineering and data-centric project execution practices
  • Performing other duties as required

Requirements

  • 5 Years+ of relevant engineering, design or engineering systems experience with significant hands-on experience using intelligent P&ID applications
  • Hands-on experience with Autodesk Plant 3D P&ID, including project setup, configuration, reporting, administration and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of P&ID engineering and design concepts, including equipment, piping, instrumentation, tagging, line numbering and engineering drawing conventions
  • Experience configuring Plant 3D P&ID classes, properties, symbols, annotations, tag formats, drawing templates and project standards
